What's it all about?

Hiya, we're Curly's Athletes!

We spend most of our days running events and activities that support people to get moving. We also spend our time working on how we improve things for our communities, support our charity chums and generally try to do 'good things' ... the world can be full of less nice things, so it's nice to be doing nice things and we LOVE WHAT WE DO!

Exercise is described as 'the miracle cure' and it helps us live better for longer, so we created this shop to have a bigger impact than just the things we can do, we wanted to support others to do the same.

So when you buy lovely things from us, we create 'micro-grants' to help people discover exercise

These grants go to various groups who have an ambition to help others to get moving more. In fact 10% of the price you pay (yup no sneaky % of profit etc ... you pay £100, £10 is generated to help others get active).

How our micro grants work,

10% of the price you pay for the item gets allocated to our micro grants, these grants then add up together for an area until they reach at least £250. Then we look for opportunities through local partners to get the grant to clubs, communities or charities who are looking to support individuals facing inequalities to get more active.

ps: Our event specific kit actually direct supports the charities we work with on these events, so these things don't come into the 10%, they've their own amazing thing going on!

How do you define the areas for the grants?

So, if you choose to pick up from one of our events or it's an event specific piece of kit (like a 10k run t-shirt), then we allocate those funds to the area where the event is taking place. If you order a none event piece of kit (like a funky Bobble Hat) online then we do the same based on where the item is getting delivered to.

What are inequalities, and why do they matter?

We hope you love getting active, but we know sometimes it can be hard to find the time, find the money or feel comfortable in an active space. Some people in our communities face more challenges than others in finding their way to being more active. So we want to help that.

To support this we target our grants towards projects that focusses on addressing these, examples include:

People facing Economic Hardship, Long Term Health Conditions, Physical or Learning Difficulties. Women & Girls, Older People or those from Minority Groups.

... and one more thing, were just trying to 'Be Better, Not Perfect'

We're setting out on this adventure with big ambitions to do as much good as we can, but we aren't perfect, we will learn things on the way but we're going to do our very best to make a difference. We also think this is a great motto to take when it comes to getting active... so don't feel pressure, just do what you can and 'Be Better, Not Perfect.

Our eventual aim is to provide a genuine alternative to your traditional sportswear that's founded in helping more people to discover the benefits of getting active, but one step at a time...
